p53 in ferroptosis regulation: the new weapon for the old guardian

Yanqing Liu et al.

Summary: p53 plays a crucial role in tumor suppression through modulating ferroptosis, a form of iron-dependent non-apoptotic cell death. Through its metabolic targets, p53 can regulate the cellular response to ferroptosis inducers. This review also discusses the potential of targeting p53-mediated ferroptotic responses for the treatment of human cancers and other diseases.

The Smad Dependent TGF-β and BMP Signaling Pathway in Bone Remodeling and Therapies

Ming-Li Zou et al.

Summary: Bone remodeling is a continuous process crucial for maintaining skeletal homeostasis, with Smad signaling pathway playing a key role in regulating osteoblast and osteoclast functions during this process. Targeting Smad signaling pathway could be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating osteoporosis.

Molecular mechanisms of intermuscular bone development in fish: a review

Bo Li et al.

Summary: Intermuscular bones (IBs) are unique linear bones found in fish that ossify from tendons and play a crucial role in swimming. However, they pose a choking hazard when consumed by humans, particularly children, impacting commercial aquaculture. This review explores the morphogenesis, functions, and underlying molecular mechanisms of IBs, as well as techniques for breeding fish lines without IBs. Key genes involved in tendon development, osteoblast differentiation, and bone formation are found to also be crucial for IB development, providing valuable insights for creating IB-free fish strains through genome editing and artificial selection.
