Effect of nitriding on mechanical and microstructural properties of Direct Metal Laser Sintered 17-4PH stainless steel

J. R. Jessy Michla et al.

Summary: The effect of nitriding process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of additively manufactured 17-4PH stainless steel is investigated. The nitriding process improves the hardness and surface roughness of the steel, leading to the development of almost equiaxed grain microstructure and the introduction of new precipitates.

Stress corrosion cracking behavior and mechanism of super 13Cr stainless steel in simulated O2/CO2 containing 3.5 wt% NaCl solution

Sheji Luo et al.

Summary: The stress corrosion cracking behavior of super 13Cr stainless steel in a corrosive environment containing O-2, CO2, and Cl- is influenced by the applied potential, with anode and cathode polarization increasing SCC susceptibility. The mechanism of SCC is related to the applied potentials, with anodic dissolution and hydrogen embrittlement observed at different voltage levels.

Enhancement of corrosion protection of AISI 201 austenitic stainless steel in acidic chloride solutions by Ce-doped TiO2 coating

Ghalia A. Gaber et al.

Summary: The electrodeposited Ce-doped TiO2 coatings significantly enhance the corrosion resistance of low-nickel austenitic stainless steel with 8% Mn in acidic chloride solutions. The coatings reduce the corrosion current density and shift the corrosion potential to a more positive value, effectively decreasing the corrosion rate.

Bing Bai et al.

Summary: When 17-4PH martensitic stainless steel is serviced at 300 degrees C for long term in a nuclear power plant, thermal aging embrittlement and hardening will occur, mainly due to the nucleation and growth of Cu-rich precipitates and Cr-rich precipitates.

Effects of rare earth modifying inclusions on the pitting corrosion of 13Cr4Ni martensitic stainless steel

Changgang Wang et al.

Summary: This study characterized the pitting corrosion behavior of martensitic stainless steel with and without rare earth modification in NaCl solution. The presence of different inclusions in BASE and REM steels affected the pitting resistance, with REM steel showing both increased susceptibility to pitting nucleation and improved repassivation. The concentration of rare earth elements in the steel matrix influenced the number and size of inclusions, ultimately affecting the overall pitting corrosion resistance.

Effect of Aging Heat Treatment on Corrosion Behavior and Corrosion Kinetics of 17-4PH Stainless Steel in Artificial Saliva

Onthida Kosasang et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of sintered 17-4PH stainless steel samples aged at different conditions in artificial saliva was investigated. Samples aged at 480 degrees Celsius for 1 hour exhibited the highest corrosion resistance, with corrosion kinetics following a bimodal function form rather than a classical power-law function. Pitting corrosion was mainly initiated from existing, isolated pores and further accelerated.

M. H. Shaeri Karimi et al.

Summary: This study found that 316L stainless steel processed through L-PBF exhibited better corrosion resistance in alkaline solution and in some cases even outperformed the wrought alloy. The L-PBF processed alloy showed a finer and more uniform microstructure, lower defect density, and lower corrosion current density compared to the wrought counterpart.
