Promoting openness to autism amongst dental care professional students

The results showed that group training conducted via videoconferencing was effective for teaching participants to implement the intervention. This approach could be useful for training dental professionals in behavior techniques to promote patient compliance.

Summary: This study examined the impact of a brief intellectual and developmental disability curriculum intervention on first-year medical students' attitudes and knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities. The results showed that the intervention improved students' confidence in communicating with people with disabilities and their sense of competence in taking a history. However, it did not suggest a shift towards the philosophy of community inclusion.

Medical student program to learn from families experiencing developmental disabilities

Medical students are generally not trained to effectively communicate with these patients. However, a program that allows medical students to meet and learn from these patients and their families has shown to increase students' confidence and experience in interacting with such patients.

The experiences of students being taught and assessed by adults with intellectual disabilities were generally positive, leading to increased empathy and reduced discomfort around disability. However, some aspects of the module, particularly being assessed by self-advocates with intellectual disabilities, caused significant anxiety among students.
