Modulating Microglia/Macrophage Activation by CDNF Promotes Transplantation of Fetal Ventral Mesencephalic Graft Survival and Function in a Hemiparkinsonian Rat Model

Kuan-Yin Tseng et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons. Cell transplantation is a potential therapy for Parkinson's disease, but it is limited by immune reactions. This study investigates the effect of cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor (CDNF) on immune responses and the success of cell transplantation in a Parkinson's disease animal model. The results show that CDNF administration enhances the survival of grafted dopaminergic neurons and improves functional recovery. The findings suggest that CDNF may be used to improve transplantation-based regenerative therapies.
