Exercise activates autophagy and regulates endoplasmic reticulum stress in muscle of high-fat diet mice to alleviate insulin resistance

Fangzhou Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigates how exercise training acts on insulin resistance (IR) through the mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and blocked autophagy caused by a high-fat diet (HFD). The findings suggest that exercise training can facilitate HFD-blocked protective autophagy via the activation of the AMPK/PGC1 alpha pathway to relieve insulin resistance in mice.

Branched-chain amino acid supplementation impairs insulin sensitivity and promotes lipogenesis during exercise in diet-induced obese mice

Hongsong Zhang et al.

Summary: Exercise reduces body weight, improves insulin sensitivity, lowers BCAAs in plasma, and inhibits the upregulation of BCAAs and metabolites caused by BCAA supplementation in the subcutaneous white adipose tissue of obese mice. BCAA supplementation reverses the improved insulin sensitivity from exercise in obese mice, but has no effect in lean mice. BCAAs also increase lipogenesis gene expression in the subcutaneous white adipose tissue of exercised obese mice.

Exercise Interventions Combined With Dietary Supplements in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients-A Systematic Review of Relevant Health Outcomes

Frederike Maria Meuffels et al.

Summary: Physical training combined with dietary supplement intake can potentially enhance specific health outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, but negative effects may also be observed. Further research is needed to explore the mechanisms behind these effects for the development of safe recommendations.

Summary: Ingestion of L-phenylalanine, but not D-phenylalanine, increases insulin, glucagon and GIP concentrations without significantly affecting appetite or energy intake. D-phenylalanine, on the other hand, increases postprandial PYY concentrations.

Diagnostic approach to thyroid cancer based on amino acid metabolomics in saliva by ultra-performance liquid chromatography with high resolution mass spectrometry

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed a UPLC-HRMS method to determine the metabolic levels of 10 amino acids in saliva for the early diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Results showed that a combination of alanine, valine, proline, and phenylalanine could improve the accuracy of thyroid cancer diagnosis. Salivary amino acid biomarkers have the potential for non-invasive early diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

The many actions of insulin in skeletal muscle, the paramount tissue determining glycemia

Lykke Sylow et al.

Summary: Skeletal muscle is crucial for insulin-stimulated glucose disposal and overall glycemic control. Insulin regulates glucose uptake in skeletal muscle through complex signaling cascades. Understanding insulin's actions in muscle can provide insights into addressing issues with glucose uptake in conditions like diabetes and obesity.
