Blue light induces biosynthesis of flavonoids in Epimedium sagittatum (Sieb. et Zucc.) Maxim. leaves, a study on a light-demanding medicinal shade herb

Linlin Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different light irradiations on the physiological characteristics and secondary metabolism of Epimedium sagittatum leaves. It found that red light, yellow light, and blue light had significant effects on the plant's characteristics and secondary metabolism, particularly blue light. Yellow light and blue light promoted the accumulation of flavonoids, while red light had no positive effect. Untargeted metabolome analysis confirmed the positive effects of blue light on flavonoid synthesis.

Effect of the foliar application of zinc oxide nanoparticles on some biochemical and physiological parameters of Trigonella foenum-graecum under salinity stress

Zahra Noohpisheh et al.

Summary: The results of the study showed that increasing salinity concentration led to a significant increase in proline and malondialdehyde in both cultivars, and significantly increased protein while reducing sugar in cv. Mashhadian. At a high concentration of salinity, polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase, lipoxygenase, and phenylalanine ammonia lyase significantly increased in both cultivars. Additionally, an increase in salinity concentration increased Na concentration, while it decreased K and Ca concentrations in the shoot and root of both cultivars.

Extraction and Analyses of Flavonoids and Phenolic Acids from Canadian Goldenrod and Giant Goldenrod

Jure Zekic et al.

Summary: The invasive alien plant species Canadian goldenrod and giant goldenrod have been investigated as sources of phytochemicals and yellow dyes. Various extraction solvents were used to extract flavonoids and phenolic acids from the inflorescence, with 70% acetone((aq)), 70% methanol((aq),) and 70% ethanol((aq) showing the best extraction efficiencies. Analytical methods such as HPTLC and HPLC were used to analyze the obtained samples, revealing different chromatographic fingerprints and the presence of various phenolic acids and flavonoids in the goldenrod species. Additional analyses using HPTLC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS enabled tentative identification of various phenolic acids and flavonoids in Canadian and giant goldenrod for the first time.
