Integrated role of human thymic stromal cells in hematopoietic stem cell extravasation

Sara A. Watson et al.

Summary: The human thymus is crucial for T-cell maturation, and understanding the recruitment of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to the thymus is important. In this study, a 3D microfluidic assay was developed to model HSC extravasation across the endothelium, and it was found that thymic stromal cells (TSCs) play a critical role in increasing the extravasation rates of HSCs. Complex gene expressions between endothelial cells, thymic epithelial cells (TECs), and interstitial cells (TICs) were also found to modulate HSC extravasation.

Dual 3D printing for vascularized bone tissue regeneration

Sung Yun Hann et al.

Summary: The development of vascular networks is crucial for tissue fabrication in regenerative medicine. 3D printing vascularized bone has gained attention due to bone disorders, but challenges persist due to the need for nanoscale precision. A novel 3D printing approach was combined with biocompatible materials to enhance vascular growth and tissue bioactivity.

Printing New Bones: From Print-and-Implant Devices to Bioprinted Bone Organ Precursors

Fiona E. Freeman et al.

Summary: Regenerating large bone defects is a clinical challenge that has sparked interest in additive manufacturing and 3D bioprinting for superior bone graft substitutes. Two main approaches to bioprinting implants exist, with one allowing direct implantation and the other requiring in vitro culture for tissue maturation before implantation. This review explores the concepts, challenges, and applications of both strategies for bone regeneration.
