Jute/Hemp bio-epoxy hybrid bio-composites: Influence of stacking sequence on adhesion of fiber-matrix

A. Vinod et al.

Summary: In this study, four different sequential laminates of Jute and Hemp fibers reinforced hybrid bio-epoxy composites were developed using the hand lay-up method. The mechanical properties of the hybrid laminates were comparable to pure hemp laminate, with the highest tensile strength observed in the hybrid composite hemp/jute/hemp. Hybridization with hemp fiber as a skin layer and jute fiber as a core layer can improve tensile and flexural strength while decreasing interlaminar shear strength.

Impact of alkali treatment and fiber length on mechanical properties of new agro waste Lagenaria Siceraria fiber reinforced epoxy composites

Saravanan Nagappan et al.

Summary: Composite laminates prepared with 7mm fiber length and 30wt% of alkali-treated fiber exhibit better mechanical properties compared to other combinations. However, further increase in fiber length and content may cause a decrease in mechanical properties for both treated and untreated LSF-reinforced composites.

Areca/synthetic fibers reinforced based epoxy hybrid composites for semi-structural applications

T. G. Yashas Gowda et al.

Summary: The recent developments in material science focus on using biodegradable materials to minimize the environmental impact caused by synthetic materials. In this study, four-layered areca/carbon/kevlar/carbon-kevlar hybrid fiber-reinforced epoxy laminates were prepared and evaluated for mechanical, thermal, and water absorption behavior. The results showed that the hybridization of areca fiber with synthetic fibers significantly influenced the mechanical properties of the composites. Additionally, the water absorption behavior and thermal property of the laminates improved with the addition of synthetic fibers. These findings suggest that the developed areca/synthetic fiber hybrid composites can be applied in semi-structural engineering applications.
