Comparison of the pathogenicity of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV)-1 and PRRSV-2 in pregnant sows

Chang-Gi Jeong et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the pathogenicity of different PRRSV isolates in a reproductive model. The results showed variations in replication efficiency and pathogenicity among different isolates in pregnant sows and fetuses. There was no significant correlation between viral loads and histopathological lesions.

Immunogenic and antigenic analysis of recombinant NSP1 and NSP11 of PRRS virus

Maria Josefina Contreras-Luna et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the immunogenicity and antigenic properties of NSP1 and NSP11 recombinant proteins expressed in Escherichia coli cells. The results showed that these proteins were immunogenic in pigs and demonstrated higher specificity in recognizing PRRSV antigens. Both NSP1 and NSP11 proteins elicited neutralizing antibodies against PRRSV.

Intranasal delivery of inactivated PRRSV loaded cationic nanoparticles coupled with enterotoxin subunit B induces PRRSV-specific immune responses in pigs

Puwich Chaikhumwang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the immune responses and protective efficacy of intranasal administration of inactivated porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) loaded in polylactic acid nanoparticles combined with heat-labile enterotoxin subunit B and dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide. The results showed that this method induced higher levels of interferon-gamma-producing cells and antibodies, and provided better protection against viral infection and lung lesions.

Astragalus polysaccharide alleviated the inhibition of CSFV C-strain replication caused by PRRSV via the TLRs/NF-ΚB/TNF-α pathways

Dengjin Chen et al.

Summary: The study shows that astragalus polysaccharide can alleviate the inhibition of PRRSV on CSFV-C replication by affecting the TLRs/NF-kappa B/TNF-alpha pathways. This provides a scientific basis for effective prevention and control of CSF in pig farms.

CD163-Expressing Porcine Macrophages Support NADC30-like and NADC34-like PRRSV Infections

Yulin Xu et al.

Summary: The study showed that porcine CD163-expressing macrophages can support infections of PRRSV2 lineages 1, 5, and 8, providing valuable insights for PRRSV research and disease management, especially in the context of prevalent NADC30-like and NADC34-like PRRSV2 strains of lineage 1 in China.

Direct Priming of CD8+ T Cells Persists in the Face of Cowpox Virus Inhibitors of Antigen Presentation

Leon C. W. Lin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the CD8(+) T cell priming pathways for Vaccinia virus (VACV) by engineering the virus to express inhibitors of antigen presentation. While the inhibitors had diverse impacts on CD8(+) T cell responses, unexpectedly, the direct priming of CD8(+) T cells by poxviruses was robust enough to withstand potent viral inhibitors of antigen presentation. This demonstrates the flexibility and robustness of immune processes in activating immune responses required to fight infection.

Genetic characterization of a novel porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus type I strain from southwest China

Jun Zhao et al.

Summary: PRRS is a devastating viral disease in the global pig industry. A new PRRSV strain was isolated from aborted piglets on a farm in Sichuan, China, with 87.7% sequence identity to the Lelystad strain. The genome analysis revealed significant variations in NSP2, ORF3, and ORF4 regions in comparison to other PRRSV type I strains.

Is transportation a risk factor for African swine fever transmission in Australia: a review

E. J. Neumann et al.

Summary: African swine fever is a viral disease that originated in Africa and has caused epidemics in Europe and Asia; infected feral pig populations can act as a long-term reservoir for the virus, making eradication challenging; transportation-related risk factors may play a key role in the spread of ASF, although evidence is currently limited.

Evasion of Antiviral Innate Immunity by Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus

Tong-Yun Wang et al.

Summary: Innate immunity serves as the initial defense against viral infections, but viruses like PRRSV have evolved various strategies to evade it. PRRSV, a highly destructive virus in the global swine industry, utilizes multiple strategies to avoid porcine innate immune responses. Understanding the evasion mechanisms employed by PRRSV can aid in developing more effective methods to control and eliminate the virus.

Recombinant Antigen of Type 2 Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV-2) Promotes M1 Repolarization of Porcine Alveolar Macrophages and Th1 Type Response

Rika Wahyuningtyas et al.

Summary: The study indicates that A1 can reverse the polarization status of PAMs towards pro-inflammatory phenotypes, reducing CD163 expression for viral entry and increasing Th1 response. Therefore, A1 is considered a potential vaccine for PRRSV infection.
