Prevalence and molecular characterization of important potato viruses in the Tokat province of Turkey

Afide Merve Enguer et al.

Summary: This study investigated the four most common potato viruses in the Tokat Province of northern Turkey. The results showed that Potato virus Y (PVY) was the most common virus, followed by potato virus S (PVS), potato virus X (PVX) and potato leaf roll virus (PLRV). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all Turkish isolates were immigrant members of the world populations of these viruses. These findings emphasize the importance of strict quarantine control for plant materials entering Turkey.

Phylogenetic and diversity analyses revealed that leek yellow stripe virus population consists of three types: S, L, and N

Adyatma Irawan Santosa et al.

Summary: Phylogenetic and evolutionary analyses of leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV) identified three major groups (S, L, and N) based on genetic variation and host species. The dN/dS values confirmed purifying selection for the P1 and CP genes, and gene flow was found between the groups. These findings support the previous classification of LYSV into three major evolutionary lineages.

Prunus necrotic ringspot virus in Turkey: an immigrant population

Ali Celik et al.

Summary: This study investigated an outbreak of prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) in northwestern Turkey and compared it with isolates from other parts of the world. The results showed that the most recent common ancestor of the global PNRSV population was likely from America. The study also analyzed the recombination and reassortment of the PNRSV genome, emphasizing the importance of strict quarantine for stone fruit crops worldwide.

Comprehensive surveillance and population study on plum pox virus in Ankara Province of Turkey

Sevgi Coskan et al.

Summary: This study conducted extensive surveillance and analysis of plum pox virus (PPV) in Ankara Province, Turkey. The results revealed the presence of multiple PPV subtypes with high genetic diversity. The study also found that the expansions of PPV populations in Turkey and Ankara were driven by relatively new mutations in their genome.

Insight into Population Structure and Evolutionary Analysis of the Emerging Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus

Ali Celik et al.

Summary: This study collected tomato and pepper samples in Turkey and identified an infection of Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV). Genetic analysis revealed low genetic variation among global ToBRFV isolates, and no clear genetic separation among isolates from different geographic origins. This study provides insights into the population structure of ToBRFV.

A review of root, tuber and banana crops in developing countries: past, present and future

Gregory J. Scott

Summary: Roots, tubers, bananas and plantain crops (RTBs) are crucial sources of food, nutrition and income for many of the poorest farmers and food-insecure people in developing countries. Opportunities to improve food security or increase income with RTBs have been identified due to shifting tastes and preferences. This paper analyzes changes in production, utilization and trade of RTBs over the last six decades and provides recommendations for their future development.

RDP5: a computer program for analyzing recombination in, and removing signals of recombination from, nucleotide sequence datasets

Darren P. Martin et al.

Summary: The RDP project has developed an automated recombination analysis tool, RDP5, which is faster and more efficient than its predecessor, RDP4. Users can now analyze larger and more complex datasets with minimal manual intervention, allowing for greater flexibility and output options.

Phylogenetic and diversity analyses of Garlic common latent virus based on the TGB and CP gene sequence

Adyatma Irawan Santosa et al.

Summary: GarCLV exhibits genetic diversity with three distinct clades identified based on the nucleotide and amino acid sequences of the TGB and CP genes. Clade 2 shows the lowest variability and most major amino acid changes are found in the CP gene at its 5' and 3' ends. Neutrality tests suggest that all clades are divergent from each other, with high gene flow observed among them.
