A review of the genus Zonophryxus Richardson, 1903 ( Crustacea: Isopoda: Dajidae) with recognition of Colypurus agassizi Richardson, 1905 (Crustacea: Isopoda: Colypuridae) as a synonym of Zonophryxus similis Searle, 1914 and the requisite sinking of Colypuridae

Christopher B. Boyko et al.

Summary: This review of the epicaridean isopod genus Zonophryxus provides insights into host choice and confirms the synonymy of the enigmatic species Colypurus agassizi. It also introduces a new species, Zonophryxus probisowa, named in honor of The Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington.

Out on a limb: novel morphology and position on appendages of two new genera and three new species of ectoparasitic isopods (Epicaridea: Dajidae) infesting isopod and decapod hosts

Jason D. Williams et al.

Summary: This article describes two new genera and species of dajid isopods, with females exhibiting a unique spheroid shape and enveloping the antennules of their crustacean hosts. The differences between these species and others, as well as the distinct morphological characteristics between males and females, are discussed in detail. Pre-molt epicaridium larvae and cryptoniscus larvae are also described, along with a new species parasitizing another type of isopod. The life cycles and development of dajids are reviewed in the study.

Mass occurrence of small isopodan crustaceans in 100-million-year-old amber: an extraordinary view on behaviour of extinct organisms

Mario Schaedel et al.

Summary: This study identified over 100 preserved epicarideans in a single piece of Late Cretaceous Myanmar amber, showing morphological similarities to modern cryptoniscium larvae but also distinct differences, leading to the naming of a new species Cryptolacruma nidis. The high density of these fossil specimens in the amber likely resulted from circumstances near the resin-producing tree, suggesting specific environmental factors for preservation.
