The concept of modern molecular clock and experience in estimating divergence times of Eulipotyphla and Rodentia

A. A. Bannikova et al.

Summary: The development of molecular clock concept is associated with advancements in methods, with Relaxed clock methods being commonly used for dating. The accuracy of dating is influenced by the instability of the molecular evolution rate, the increase in data volume to the genomic level, and the use of different evolution rate models. Despite improvements in estimating molecular divergences, uncertainties in dating persist due to calibration ambiguities and limitations in DNA sequence evolution models.

Characterising Mitochondrial Capture in an Iberian Shrew

Henry D. Kunerth et al.

Summary: The phenomenon of mitochondrial introgression raises questions about biogeography, reproductive isolation, and natural selection in the Sorex araneus complex. Previous research has shown hybridization between Sorex granarius and the Carlit chromosomal race of S. araneus, leading to introgression of the S. araneus mitochondrial genome into S. granarius. The current study further examines this phenomenon and suggests recent hybridization and introgression between S. coronatus and S. granarius, as well as between S. araneus and S. coronatus.
