Implementation and Outcome of Robotic Liver Surgery in the Netherlands A Nationwide Analysis

Summary: This study aims to determine the implementation and surgical outcome of robotic liver surgery (RLS) in the Netherlands, as well as assess the learning curve of implementing RLS. The results show that the nationwide use of RLS has rapidly increased, with one-tenth of all liver resections and one-fourth of all minimally invasive liver resections being performed using robotics. Although the surgical outcomes of RLS in selected patients appear to be favorable, further prospective studies are needed to determine its added value.

Results showed a close association between the IWATE criteria and surgical outcomes of RH, with the majority of resections being parenchymal-sparing approaches.

When compared to laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH), RH had longer operation time and more intraoperative blood loss, but there were no significant differences in other outcomes.
