Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and multivariate analysis for the diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma

Kunyu Wang et al.

Summary: The incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is increasing worldwide, and early detection is crucial for prognosis. This study used surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) to achieve early and noninvasive diagnosis of OSCC. By analyzing serum and saliva samples from patients with OSCC, malignant neoplasms of the salivary gland, and normal subjects, the study found that body fluid SERS combined with a support vector machine (SVM) diagnostic model has great potential for the diagnosis of OSCC.

Raman Spectroscopic Characterization of Saliva for the Discrimination of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

A. Falamas et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the application of Raman spectroscopy for analyzing saliva samples and diagnosing oral squamous cell carcinoma. Different sample preparation methods were tested and the most suitable protocol was selected for further analysis of saliva samples from healthy volunteers and oral cancer patients. The study aims to differentiate between the Raman spectra collected from the two groups using multivariate statistical methods.
