Microstructure and wear resistance of Fe-based hardfacing layer prepared by flux-cored wire feeding MAG welding process

Jicheng Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, various flux-cored wires containing multiple alloying elements were developed for surface enhancement of drilling components, and Fe-based hardfacing layers were prepared by metal active-gas (MAG) welding process. Results showed that the addition of Nb, Ti, and B to high C content resulted in a change in hard phases from particles to bulk and lath shapes, leading to improved wear resistance of the hardfacing layer.

Microstructural and wear investigation of high chromium white cast iron hardfacing alloys deposited on carbon steel

Afzalleh Jilleh et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the microstructural development and wear performance of Nb and Mo added hypereutectic WCI hardface deposits, with W and V as minor additives. It was found that the addition of Nb and Mo resulted in the formation of MC carbides, leading to grain refinement and higher wear resistance. XRD analysis showed the existence of MC carbides in alloys with Nb and Mo additions, contributing to improved wear resistance.

Abrasion resistance of Fe-Cr-C coating deposited by FCAW welding process

Jurandir Marcos Sa de Sousa et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the abrasion resistance of Fe-C-Cr alloy coatings deposited by Flux-Cored Arc Welding process, showing resistant metallurgical bond, good surface quality, and geometrical aspects. The microstructure, composed of M7C3 carbides dispersed in a Fe eutectic matrix, varied with dilution level and deposition parameters. M7C3 carbides in high Cr alloys provided increased hardness and tribological performance, with coatings showing differences in wear rate and worn surfaces based on carbide distribution.

Abrasion wear of austenitic manganese steels via jaw crusher test

P. C. Machado et al.

Summary: Austenitic manganese steels with different Mn contents were evaluated for abrasion wear through jaw crusher tests, showing that the stationary jaw had higher mass loss, attributed to microcutting and microploughing mechanisms, while the movable jaw was mainly affected by micro-indentation. Focused Ion Beam (FIB) analysis revealed the formation of ultrafine grains and deformation twins in the subsurface layer due to wear.
