CFD-PBM modelling of tailings flocculation in a lab-scale gravity thickener

Xuetao Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of flow characteristics on flocculation performance through a numerical approach, combining an aggregation kernel and a breakage kernel to model the complex flocculation behavior in a lab-scale gravity thickener. The results show that momentum and turbulence dissipation rates increase with feed velocity, but decrease with scaled depth in the feedwell.

Application of a modified biological flocculant in total nitrogen treatment of leather wastewater

Yizhuo Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a modified bio-flocculant was prepared to treat leather wastewater, and the optimized conditions resulted in higher flocculation efficiency and total nitrogen removal efficiency compared to unmodified bio-flocculant and other conventional chemicals. The modified bio-flocculant showed significant improvements in flocculation characteristics and promoted the removal of nitrogenous substances in the denitrification process, proving its effectiveness in treating leather wastewater.

Methylated mud snail protein as a bio-flocculant for high turbidity wastewater treatment

Shaohui Mao et al.

Summary: The authors reported the development of a potential candidate methylated mud snail protein (MeMsp) as an effective and eco-friendly flocculant for high turbidity wastewater treatment. MeMsp exhibited excellent flocculation efficiency at a low dosage and a wide flocculation window in the pH range of 1.0-9.0. Additionally, MeMsp-24 showed high clarification efficiency in treating railway tunnel construction effluent. Through extraction and methylation modification, MeMsp could be a promising option for high turbidity wastewater treatment.
