Investigating the effects of climate change on future hydrological drought in mountainous basins using SWAT model based on CMIP5 model

Alireza Samavati et al.

Summary: This study used the SWAT model to investigate the effects of climate change on runoff in the Alvand mountain basin in Iran. The results showed that future climate conditions would lead to an increase in temperature and a decrease in rainfall, resulting in a significant reduction in runoff. Additionally, the study found that the intensity of drought would increase under all scenarios.

Assessment of the Analytic and Hydrologic Methods in Separation of Watershed Response to Climate and Land Use Changes

Omidreza Mikaeili et al.

Summary: This study compared three methods to analyze the impact of climate change and human activities on the streamflow of the Minab River in southern Iran. It evaluated the effects through the development of different agricultural and urbanization scenarios. The results showed that human activities were the main cause of streamflow reduction.

Assessing the impacts of land use/land cover changes on hydrological processes in Southern Ethiopia: The SWAT model approach

Hailu Gisha Kuma et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the impact of land use and land cover changes on hydrological processes in the Bilate catchment of southern Ethiopia. Using Landsat images from 1986, 2002, and 2018, LULC changes were classified and analyzed using the SWAT model. The results show an increase in built-up areas, cultivated land, and water bodies, while forest and grazing areas decreased. This has led to changes in water leaving the root zone, evapotranspiration, and surface runoff, impacting water resources and requiring integrated LULC and water resource management for sustainable development.

Assessment of Climate Change Impact on Water Balance of Lake Hawassa Catchment

Beyene Akirso Alehu et al.

Summary: The impact of climate change on the water balance of Lake Hawassa catchment in southern Ethiopia was assessed, showing an expected increase in precipitation and surface runoff, and a decrease in lateral discharge and water yield. Constant monitoring and updated sustainable water resource management and development is necessary.

Evaluation of land use/land cover datasets in hydrological modelling using the SWAT model

Sayed Amir Alawi et al.

Summary: Land use/land cover (LULC) plays a crucial role in the hydrology of watersheds, affecting runoff generation and evapotranspiration estimation. Accurate and reliable LULC data are necessary for hydrological modeling, but data deficiencies pose challenges in many developing countries and remote areas. This research evaluated the accuracy of LULC data from two different sources in hydrological modeling using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). The results showed that the ESRI 2020 dataset, with its higher resolution and accessibility, is recommended for hydrological modeling with SWAT.

Streamflow Prediction Upstream of a Dam Using SWAT and Assessment of the Impact of Land Use Spatial Resolution on Model Performance

Wafae El Harraki et al.

Summary: This study examined the sensitivity of the SWAT model to the spatial resolution of land use data and found that applying finer resolution data did not necessarily enhance the accuracy of streamflow assessment. The performance of the two models in terms of statistical coefficients and graphical evaluation was satisfactory, indicating that the accuracy of streamflow prediction was not directly related to the increase in the number of delineated HRUs.

Modeling projected impacts of climate and land use/land cover changes on hydrological responses in the Lake Tana Basin, upper Blue Nile River Basin, Ethiopia

Birhan Getachew et al.

Summary: This study in Lake Tana Basin, Upper Blue Nile River Basin in Ethiopia, assesses the impacts of climate and land use/land cover change on water balance components. The hydrological response of the basin was evaluated under different scenarios for future time periods, showing potential increases in evapotranspiration, baseflow, and streamflow conditions due to changes in land use/land cover and climate. The results indicate changes in temperature, precipitation, evapotranspiration, and streamflow, with climate change having a greater impact on water balances than the combined effects of climate and land use/land cover change.

Evaluation of CMIP6 precipitation simulations across different climatic zones: Uncertainty and model intercomparison

Farhad Yazdandoost et al.

Summary: This study examines the performance of CMIP6 historical simulations on precipitation estimates in Iran's climatic regions, finding significant variability in model reliability across different climate zones. Each CMIP6 model appears to be more suitable for specific climatic zones, with some models performing well in arid regions but not in humid zones, and vice versa. The results highlight the importance of selecting appropriate models for different climate zones.
