Summary: The study found that CD3(+) and CD8(+) T-cell density and PD-1/PD-L1 expression have prognostic value in pulmonary metastases of colorectal cancer. T-cell infiltration is higher in pulmonary metastases compared to primary tumors. High CD3(+) and CD8(+) cell density are associated with better survival, while high PD-L1 expression is associated with favorable prognosis.

Summary: This study evaluates the relationship between the histopathological growth patterns (HGPs) of liver metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRLM) and the histopathology of the primary colorectal cancer (CRC). The results show that unfavourable CRC histopathology is more frequent in non-desmoplastic CRLM. Furthermore, the cumulative prevalence of unfavourable CRC histopathology is significantly higher in non-desmoplastic CRLM compared to desmoplastic CRLM.

These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Immune Contexture of MMR-Proficient Primary Colorectal Cancer and Matched Liver and Lung Metastases

Summary: Metastasis is the main cause of cancer mortality, with the liver and lungs being the most common sites for colorectal cancer (CRC) metastases. High immune cell infiltration and PD-L1 positivity were found to almost double in metastases compared to primary tumors, and high ICS in the least immune-infiltrated metastases of pMMR CRC patients was confirmed to have prognostic value. The differences in immune contexture between primary tumors and metastases may have implications for treatment strategies for advanced CRC patients.
