Naryaviridae, Nenyaviridae, and Vilyaviridae: three new families of single-stranded DNA viruses in the phylum Cressdnaviricota

Mart Krupovic et al.

Summary: This study reports the creation of new orders and families within the phylum Cressdnaviricota, expanding the classification of viruses associated with protozoan parasites. A sequence-based taxonomic framework was used to classify 60 ssDNA viruses into different genera and species. The challenges in classifying chimeric virus genomes are highlighted.

Revisiting Porcine Circovirus Disease Diagnostic Criteria in the Current Porcine Circovirus 2 Epidemiological Context

Joaquim Segales et al.

Summary: Current knowledge on Porcine circovirus diseases (PCVD) caused by Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV-2) includes subclinical infection, systemic disease, reproductive disease, and other related conditions. The diagnosis of PCVD is based on clinical signs, lesions, and viral detection. Molecular biology methods have been used for monitoring PCVD, but should be considered as monitoring tools rather than diagnostic ones. The epidemiological picture of PCV-2 has changed due to vaccination, leading to a decrease in infectious pressure and overall herd immunity. The need for diagnosing PCVD has increased in cases with PCV-2-like conditions after vaccination.

Detection of bat-associated circoviruses in Korean bats

Gowtham Dhandapani et al.

Summary: Novel circoviruses have been detected in various mammal, bird, insect, and environmental samples in recent years. This study identified bat-associated circoviruses in Korean bats, with a frequency rate of 15.23% from 243 samples collected at 48 sampling sites. Detailed sequence analysis indicated that the identified bat-associated circoviruses were related to known bat and avian groups of circoviruses.

Highly accurate protein structure prediction with AlphaFold

John Jumper et al.

Summary: Proteins are essential for life, and accurate prediction of their structures is a crucial research problem. Current experimental methods are time-consuming, highlighting the need for accurate computational approaches to address the gap in structural coverage. Despite recent progress, existing methods fall short of atomic accuracy in protein structure prediction.
