The Epidemiology and Variation in Pseudorabies Virus: A Continuing Challenge to Pigs and Humans

Qingyun Liu et al.

Summary: Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a virus that can infect most mammals and causes economic losses in the pig industry. It can lead to severe symptoms and high mortality, and there has been an increasing number of human cases reported in China. This review provides an overview of the global prevalence and variation of PRV, as well as the vaccines and diagnostic methods used for control. While control programs have been implemented in many countries, PRV is still globally epizootic and an important pathogen for pigs.

Same Dosages of rPRV/XJ5-gI-/gE-/TK- Prototype Vaccine or Bartha-K61 Vaccine Similarly Protects Growing Pigs Against Lethal Challenge of Emerging vPRV/XJ-5 Strain

Qinghai Ren et al.

Summary: The immune effectiveness of Bartha-K61 vaccine and rPRV/XJ5-gI(-)/gE(-)/TK- prototype vaccine against vPRV/XJ-5 was evaluated in growing pigs. The results demonstrated that both vaccines provided parallel efficacy in pigs against the lethal challenge with the XJ-5 strain of vPRV.

Construction and characterization of a full-length infectious clone of Getah virus in vivo

Tongwei Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, an inverse genetic system for GETV was successfully established, which provides a valuable tool for studying the virus life cycle and developing genetically engineered GETVs as vectors. The recombinant virus showed milder pathogenicity in mice.

Bartha-K61 vaccine protects nursery pigs against challenge with novel european and asian strains of suid herpesvirus 1

Konstantinos Papageorgiou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pathogenicity of two strains of Suid herpesvirus 1 (SuHV1), the Greek strain Hercules and the Chinese strain HeN1. The results showed that the HeN1 strain was more virulent in unvaccinated pigs, but after vaccination with the Bartha-K61 strain, both strains were equally protected.

A Novel Human Acute Encephalitis Caused by Pseudorabies Virus Variant Strain

Qingyun Liu et al.

Summary: This study reported the first isolation of a PRV strain from an acute human encephalitis case, showing close phylogenetic relationships and similar etiological characteristics to Chinese PRV variant strains, suggesting the significant risk of PRV transmission from pigs to humans.

Emergence of a novel pathogenic recombinant virus from Bartha vaccine and variant pseudorabies virus in China

Zongyi Bo et al.

Summary: Two PRV variants, named JSY7 and JSY13 strains, were isolated from a Bartha-K61-vaccinated swine farm. These variants showed different cytopathic effects and plaque sizes, but had the same Aspartate insertions in the gE protein. Genomic analysis clustered JSY7 and JSY13 strains in the same clade with other PRV isolates in China. The study also revealed evidence of genomic recombination between the JSY13 strain and the Bartha and JSY7 strains, highlighting the importance of this process in PRV evolution and virulence.
