Finite element investigation on the effect of arc configuration and torch angle on heat distribution in TIG-MIG hybrid welding of DSS 2205

Ali Ebrahimpour et al.

Summary: TIG-MIG hybrid welding combines the advantages of TIG and MIG welding methods. Finite element simulation was used to investigate the effects of arc configuration and torch angle on the heat distribution and stability of the MIG arc in hybrid welding. The results showed that different arc configurations and torch angles can influence the welding process and produce different outcomes.

A 3D arc-droplet-molten pool integrated model of Al alloy GMAW process: Heat transfer, fluid flow and the effect of external magnetic field

Wenyong Zhao et al.

Summary: The effect of external magnetic field (EMF) on the behavior of heat transfer and fluid flow in aluminum alloy fabrication process has been investigated. The study found that a moderate magnetic flux density of EMF can compress the arc plasma, decrease the average temperature of droplet metal, enhance the peak velocity of plasma, and expand the high-velocity plasma zone. The EMF also reduces the dimensions of the molten pool in the early stages of welding and significantly changes the flow pattern of liquid metal in the pool.

Simulation of the influence of welding parameters on weld pool behavior during a TIG-MIG hybrid welding process

Xiangyang Wu et al.

Summary: TIG-MIG hybrid welding produces superior weld formation compared to traditional MIG welding at higher welding speeds. The study improved the adaptive heat source and arc pressure models for inclined TIG-MIG arcs on curved surfaces based on their distribution on flat surfaces. A 3D transient model of heat and mass transfer in a weld pool was established to analyze the influences of various welding parameters on a high-speed TIG-MIG hybrid welding process.

Numerical simulation of arc and metal transfer behaviors in double-wire gas metal arc welding

Jie Xu et al.

Summary: The three-dimensional coupled arc-droplet models for traditional single-wire gas metal arc welding (SW-GMAW) and double-wire gas metal arc welding (DW-GMAW) were established to analyze the interaction of two arcs and droplet inclination in DW-GMAW. Temperature, fluid flow velocity, and electromagnetic force distributions were compared between DW-GMAW and SW-GMAW.

Effect of angle, distance between electrodes and TIG current on the weld bead geometry in TIG-MIG/MAG welding process

Sarah Cristina Azevedo et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the influence of input variables on weld bead geometry in the TIG-MIG/MAG welding process. It was found that by varying parameters, such as TIG current, TIG torch angle, MIG/MAG torch angle, and electrode distance, one can achieve larger fusion zone area, greater penetration, wider bead width, and higher bead reinforcement.
