A first-principles study on the doping stability and micromechanical of atoms in aluminum matrix

Jingtao Huang et al.

Summary: In this paper, the effects of various alloying atoms on the stability and micromechanical properties of aluminum alloy were investigated using first-principles calculations. The doping energy of each alloy atom doping system was used to determine the difficulty of alloying atom doping in the aluminum matrix. The fracture energy and theoretical tensile stress of different alloy atom systems were calculated to evaluate the micromechanical properties. Theoretical studies on the solid solution and strengthening effect of different alloy atoms in aluminum matrix can provide guidance for selecting appropriate alloy elements and shorten the development period of new aluminum alloys.

Sc-containing hierarchical phase structures to improve the mechanical and corrosion resistant properties of Al-Mg-Si alloy

Bo Wei et al.

Summary: The effect of Sc addition on the hierarchical microstructures and properties of Al-Mg-Si alloys was investigated. It was found that Sc solutes exist in the Al matrix, forming a solid solution strengthening matrix. The strengthening and toughening of the alloy were associated with the formation of primary Al3Sc dispersoids. In addition, the addition of Sc led to the formation of precipitate free zones, improving the resistance to intergranular corrosion and elongation of the alloy. Sc solutes also promoted the precipitation of GP zones and solute clusters, further enhancing the precipitation hardening effect.

A systematic study of interface properties and fracture behavior of graphene/aluminum: Insights from a first-principles study

Jingtao Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, the interface properties of graphene/aluminum composites with different structures were investigated using first-principles calculations. The results showed that coating graphene on the Al(111) surface can improve the fracture energy and tensile strength. Additionally, the introduction of C vacancies and Si doping can further enhance the strength of the composites.

The role of trace Sc and Y in the corrosion resistance of cold drawn Al-0.2Ce based alloys with high electrical conductivity

Geng Lin et al.

Summary: The effects of trace Sc and Y on the corrosion behaviors of cold-drawn Al-0.2Ce alloys were studied using various techniques. It was found that the addition of Sc and Y can improve the corrosion resistance of the alloy, with Sc being more effective than Y. Additionally, the enrichment of Y around specific phases can reduce micro-galvanic corrosion susceptibility and lead to the best corrosion resistance.

Investigation the structure in cast and deformed states of aluminum alloy, economically alloyed with scandium and zirconium

Pavel Olegovich Yuryev et al.

Summary: The experimental alloy, containing small additions of scandium, zirconium, and manganese, was found to form a supersaturated solid solution in the ingot, leading to the formation of a subgrain structure with Al6Mn and Al-3(Sc, Zr) phases during annealing and subsequent hot and cold rolling. This explains the dispersion and structural hardening of sheet semi-finished products. Additionally, it was discovered that the mechanical properties of cold-rolled sheets from the experimental alloy surpass those of alloy 5083 with the same magnesium content, but are comparable to those of alloy 1570 with a higher scandium content.

Effect of Zr and Sc micro-additions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast Al-5Ce alloy

Liyang Wang et al.

Summary: Micro-additions of Zr and Sc, as well as combined addition, are effective in improving the strength and grain characteristics of Al-Ce alloys through gravity casting. The formation of nanoscale precipitates after heat treatment contributes to enhancing the alloy performance significantly.
