Understanding Drivers of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccine Hesitancy Among Blacks

Florence Momplaisir et al.

Summary: The hesitancy toward the COVID-19 vaccine is high in the black community, primarily due to mistrust in the medical establishment, concerns over the accelerated timeline for vaccine development, limited data on short- and long-term side effects, and the political environment promoting racial injustice. However, receiving a recommendation from a trusted healthcare provider and transparency around the safety profile of the vaccine may help reduce this hesitancy.

COVID-19 Vaccine Acceptance and Beliefs among Black and Hispanic Americans

Katherine Kricorian et al.

Summary: The introduction of COVID-19 vaccines has been a significant public health breakthrough, however, Black and Hispanic individuals in the US show less willingness to receive the vaccine compared to Whites. Encouraging vaccine endorsements from same-race medical professionals and providing more information on the experiences of vaccine study participants of their own race and ethnicity can potentially increase vaccine acceptance among these groups.
