Ultrasound assisted synthesis of Fe-TiO2 and Ce-TiO2 catalysts and subsequent application for photocatalytic, sonocatalytic, and sonophotocatalytic decolorization of basic Victoria blue dye

Ananya Dey et al.

Summary: The synthesis of Fe-TiO2 and Ce-TiO2 catalysts using conventional and ultrasound-assisted homogeneous coprecipitation method was investigated. The effects of ultrasonic irradiation time and power on catalyst synthesis were studied, and the best conditions were determined. Characterization results showed that the sonochemically synthesized Ce-TiO2 had the highest specific surface area and exhibited the highest decolorization rate in the sonophotocatalytic oxidation.

A critical review on the treatment of dye-containing wastewater: Ecotoxicological and health concerns of textile dyes and possible remediation approaches for environmental safety

Rania Al-Tohamy et al.

Summary: The synthetic dyes used in the textile industry cause pollution in water bodies, which has negative consequences on the environment and human health. It is important to effectively treat dye-containing wastewater using eco-friendly technologies to reduce contamination of aquatic habitats and natural water resources. This review discusses the effects of textile dyes on water bodies, aquatic flora, and human health, and compares various technologies for removing dyes from textile wastewater.

Coupling of acoustic/hydrodynamic cavitation with ozone (O3), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), magnesium oxide (MgO) and manganese dioxide (MnO2) for the effective treatment of CETP effluent

Chandrodai Agarkoti et al.

Summary: In this study, the reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in CETP effluent was investigated using acoustic or hydrodynamic cavitation coupled with ozone and various catalysts. The highest COD reduction was achieved using AC/O-3/MgO and HC/O-3/MgO approaches, with reductions of 88.66% and 88.36% respectively. OH radical scavengers and ozone scavenger were found to have an impact on the efficacy of the different approaches. The experimental data was fitted to a Generalized Kinetic Model (GKM) and cost estimations were performed for the various methods.

Summary: A novel kinetic model was developed to predict the photocatalytic degradation of wastewater. The model takes into account the generation of reactive oxygen species, the rate of electron-hole pair generation, and the impact of reactive oxygen species on pollutants. The model demonstrated robustness and high accuracy under various operational conditions.

Textile effluent toxicity trend: A scientometric review

Marina Wust Vasconcelos et al.

Summary: Textile production generates toxic effluents that pose a threat to the environment, and there is a lack of scientific research on their toxicity. This study aims to review the current state-of-art on textile effluent toxicity and identify research gaps and trends. The results show the need for more focused scientific efforts to manage textile wastewater effectively.

Comparison of acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation based hybrid AOPs for COD reduction of commercial effluent from CETP

Chandrodai Agarkoti et al.

Summary: This study explored the treatment of commercial effluent from Common Effluent Treatment Plants using acoustic cavitation and hydrodynamic cavitation based hybrid AOPs. The results showed that hydrodynamic cavitation had better COD reduction efficiency and was more economical. Kinetic studies suggested that GKM provided the best fitting for all experiments, while BMGKM was most suitable for Fenton based reactions.

Swapnil K. Gujar et al.

Summary: In this study, cavitation was used in combination with various additives/oxidants to treat industrial effluent, resulting in significant reductions in both COD and TDS. The combination of cavitation with Fenton oxidation was found to be the most efficient, achieving good reductions in COD and TDS, ultimately resulting in colorless effluent.

Summary: Sonophotocatalysis with H2O2-assisted TiO2 showed enhanced degradation efficiency for acid orange 7. Experimental design analysis and quenching tests confirmed the effectiveness of the system, with H2O2 concentration playing a more critical role in performance improvement. Identification of degradation products and proposed AO7 removal pathway further supported the potential of this novel hybrid system in wastewater treatment.

Effects of Reaction Temperature on the Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2 with Pd and Cu Cocatalysts

Yu-Wen Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of reaction temperature on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 with Pd and Cu cocatalysts. The results showed that the Pd/TiO2 catalyst exhibited higher photocatalytic activity under different temperature conditions. At temperatures higher than 70 degrees Celsius, the recombination of charge carriers increased, with the temperature range of 50-80 degrees Celsius considered ideal for effective photolysis of organic matter.
