Switchable and Tunable Deep Beamformer Using Adaptive Instance Normalization for Medical Ultrasound

Shujaat Khan et al.

Summary: Recent proposals of deep learning-based beamformers for ultrasound imaging have attracted attention as efficient alternatives to adaptive and compressive beamformers. However, existing technology requires a large number of trained and stored beamformers for different parameters, limiting resource utilization. In this paper, a switchable and tunable deep beamformer is proposed, which can switch between different output types and adjust noise removal levels using Adaptive Instance Normalization layers. Experimental results demonstrate the flexibility and efficacy of the proposed method for various applications.

Correlation-based ultrasound imaging of strong reflectors with phase coherence filtering

M. Bilodeau et al.

Summary: Two main metrics, contrast and spatial resolution, are commonly used to evaluate the quality of medical ultrasound (US) images. This paper presents the application of a correlation-based ultrasound imaging method called Excitelet in medical US imaging and introduces a new Phase Coherence (PC) metric. Experimental results show that Excitelet combined with PC filter improves lateral resolutions and reduces imaging artifacts compared to the Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT), demonstrating the potential of this method for imaging reflectors such as invasive surgical tools.

ApodNet: Learning for High Frame Rate Synthetic Transmit Aperture Ultrasound Imaging

Yinran Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a deep learning architecture, ApodNet, to achieve high frame rate STA imaging with improved lateral resolution and contrast. In in-vivo experiments, ApodNet obtained four times higher frame rate compared to conventional STA imaging and improved contrast resolution.
