The Impact of Herbal Additives for Poultry Feed on the Fatty Acid Profile of Meat

Karolina Jachimowicz et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the influence of herbal additives for broiler chicken diets on the fatty acid profile of poultry meat. The addition of herbal additives can positively alter the fatty acid composition, increasing the content of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids and reducing the content of saturated fatty acids. This modification improves the quality of poultry meat and is favored by consumers.

Managing broiler production challenges at high altitude

Fariborz Khajali

Summary: This review discusses the challenges faced by broiler chickens reared at high altitude, focusing on the implications for growth performance and physiological response. It highlights the role of nutritional and management interventions in overcoming these challenges. Reduced atmospheric oxygen concentration is the major challenge affecting the growth performance and livability of broiler chickens at high altitudes. Genetic predisposition and hypoxia contribute to the incidence of metabolic disorders, particularly ascites syndrome. To fully utilize the genetic potential of commercial broiler strains in highland regions, careful attention must be given to nutrition and management practices to prevent metabolic disorders. In ovo or in-feed nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, feed texture, and appropriate levels of dietary energy and protein are crucial factors to consider when rearing broiler chickens at high altitude. Management strategies such as lighting programs have shown efficacy in reducing the prevalence of ascites. Special breeding programs may also be considered to develop strains with resistance to ascites.

A meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of garlic supplementation on performance and blood lipids profile of broiler chickens

R. K. Rusli et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the effects of garlic supplementation on broiler chicken growth and blood lipid profile. The findings showed that garlic supplementation increased average daily gain, while decreasing feed intake and feed conversion ratio. These effects were consistent across different types of garlic, rearing periods, and countries. The study also found that garlic supplementation improved blood lipid profile in broiler chickens. Overall, garlic supplementation has important growth-promoting and hypolipidemic effects on broiler chickens.

Flavonoid antioxidants in chicken meat production: Potential application and future trends

Fariba Rafiei et al.

Summary: Meat-type chickens are highly susceptible to oxidative stress due to genetic selection and rearing conditions, leading to the addition of antioxidants in their diets for meat quality and safety. This paper discusses sources of oxidative stress in the chicken meat industry and explores the potential of flavonoids as natural antioxidants.

Supplementing Garlic Nanohydrogel Optimized Growth, Gastrointestinal Integrity and Economics and Ameliorated Necrotic Enteritis in Broiler Chickens Using a Clostridium perfringens Challenge Model

Doaa Ibrahim et al.

Summary: Necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens results in impaired bird growth performance and increased production costs. The study evaluated the beneficial effects of garlic nano-hydrogel (G-NHG) on broilers' growth performance, intestinal integrity, economic returns, and its potency to alleviate C. perfringens levels using an NE challenge model. The results showed that G-NHG supplementation improved body weight gain, decreased C. perfringens levels, and contributed to better growth performance of challenged birds with economic benefits.
