Carbon Structures and Tribological Properties of Fe-C-SiC Self-Lubricating Metal Matrix Composites Prepared with α/β-SiC Polytypes

Guilherme Oliveira Neves et al.

Summary: The study on sintered iron-based self-lubricant composites found that the SiC polytype and sintering temperature can alter the graphite structures, thereby affecting friction behavior. The presence of turbostratic graphite was beneficial to the tribological performance of these composites.

Tribofilm formation during dry sliding of graphite- and MoS2-based composites obtained by spark plasma sintering

M. F. C. Ordonez et al.

Summary: Consolidated composites of Astaloy 85Mo with the addition of MoS2, graphite, or a mixture of graphite/MoS2 were prepared using Spark Plasma Sintering. Graphite addition resulted in the formation of a tribofilm, leading to the lowest values of friction and wear; MoS2 composites exhibited an increase in friction coefficient at the highest normal loads. MoS2/graphite composites showed intermediate friction coefficient and the highest hardness.
