DJ-1D has the potential to repair glycation of molecules in plants.
Despite the documented bienzymatic mode of methylglyoxal detoxification, the singlestep catalysis of methylglyoxal by DJ-1/ Pfp-I domain containing proteins has been in the limelight. Prasad et al. recently discovered another functional facet of these moon-lighting proteins: the deglycase potential of DJ-1D to repair the glycated DNA, RNA, and proteins in plants.
