Ballistic performance and energy dissipation characteristics of cylindrical honeycomb sandwich structure

Gaurav Tiwari et al.

Summary: The energy absorption and ballistic behavior of cylindrical sandwich shells consisting of honeycomb core and cylindrical face sheets were studied using experiments and numerical simulations. The results showed that the thickness of the face sheets had a significant influence on the performance of the sandwich structure, while the geometric parameters of the honeycomb core had a minor effect.

Analytical and experimental investigations on axial crushing of aluminum tube with vertically corrugated

Arameh Eyvazian et al.

Summary: The study found that aluminum circular tubes with vertical corrugations have better crashworthiness and energy absorption characteristics. The combination of corrugation number and tube diameter impacts energy absorption capacity, while vertical corrugations increase peak force but result in smoother force-displacement curves. The influence of corrugation number on crashworthiness performance was investigated, and an analytical relationship was developed for mean force based on experimental results. Improved Technique of Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (ITOPSIS) was used to select the best structure for energy absorption purposes.

Perforation and energy dissipation behaviour of honeycomb core cylindrical sandwich shell subjected to conical shape projectile at high velocity impact

Nikhil Khaire et al.

Summary: This research investigated the perforation and energy dissipation behavior of a cylindrical sandwich shell with a honeycomb core subjected to high-velocity impact. Experimental tests were conducted using a high-pressure pneumatic gun, and numerical simulations were performed using 3D finite element analysis and the Johnson Cook model. The results showed that the typical failure mode was local dishing with petal formation and core crushing with hole formation. The geometric parameters had a significant effect on the impact response of the structure, and the energy absorption varied in different directions.

Quasi-static axial crush response and energy absorption of composite wrapped metallic thin-walled tube

Hossein Taghipoor et al.

Summary: In this study, the energy absorption and collapse behaviors of composite-coated corrugation-reinforced cylindrical absorbers were investigated. The results showed that the composite-coating could improve the energy absorption, while the longitudinal and transverse corrugations had different effects on the performance of the absorbers. The use of combined corrugation could significantly impact the collapse behavior of the coated absorbers.

Quasi-static indentation analysis on three-dimensional printed continuous-fiber sandwich composites

Vishwesh Dikshit et al.

Summary: In this study, fiber reinforced sandwich structures were fabricated using fused filament fabrication and Inkjet printing techniques, and their quasi-static indentation properties were investigated. Acoustic emission signals were monitored during the indentation testing, and micro-computed tomography analysis was performed to identify failure points and damage propagation. The results showed that sinusoidal sandwich structures had the highest load-bearing capacity and energy absorption capacity, with dominant damage mechanisms being fiber pullout and core shear.

Structural analysis of sol-gel derived TiO2 nanoparticles: a critical impact of TiO2 nanoparticles on thermo-mechanical mechanism of glass fiber polymer composites

Avinash Kumar et al.

Summary: Incorporating TiO2 nanoparticles into glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites significantly enhances their mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, flexural strength, and hardness, with minimal detrimental effects on toughness. The dispersion of nanoparticles in the composites has a strong effect on their performance, leading to improved structural and thermo-mechanical properties.
