Optical Anisotropy and Momentum-Dependent Excitons in Dibenzopentacene Single Crystals

Lukas Graf et al.

Summary: High-quality single crystals of the organic semiconductor (1,2;8,9)-dibenzopentacene were grown and characterized. The crystal structure, previously unknown, was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Optical absorption measurements showed anisotropic behavior in the ac plane of the crystals, while electron energy-loss spectroscopy revealed exciton dispersion of the Davydov components. Analysis suggested smaller electron and hole-transfer integrals in dibenzopentacene compared to pentacene. The excitation spectra exhibited momentum-dependent admixture of different types of excitons and vibrational modes.
