Thermal behavior of newly developed Zr33Hf8Ti6Cu32Ni10Co5Al6 high-entropy bulk metallic glass

Alireza Jalali et al.

Summary: A new non-equiatomic high entropy bulk metallic glass (HEBMG) was developed in this study based on the Cu47Zr47Al6 prototype BMG. Kinetic studies were performed comparing the thermal properties of the BMG and HEBMG, showing differences in activation energies and structural relaxation enthalpy. Compression tests confirmed a 58% improvement in plastic strain for the HEBMG compared to the BMG.

Effect of Ti addition on crystallization behavior of a Zr-based bulk metallic glass

A. H. Cai et al.

Summary: The isochronal and isothermal crystallization characteristics of (Zr54Al10.2Ni9.4Cu26.4)(100-x)Ti-x (x = 0 to 0.5 at.%) bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) were investigated. The study found that the crystallization activation energy and local activation energy E-alpha of the BMGs were influenced by the Ti content, and the crystallization phases depended on the heating rate and annealing temperature.

Comparative study of thermal stability and crystallization kinetics between melt-spun and bulk Pd77.5Cu6Si16.5 metallic glasses

Y. C. Tang et al.

Summary: A comparative study was conducted on the thermal stability and kinetics of crystallization of melt-spun and bulk Pd77.5Cu6Si16.5 metallic glasses. The results showed that the Pd77.5Cu6Si16.5 amorphous alloys have excellent thermal stability, with the bulk metallic glass exhibiting better stability than the ribbon. The crystallization processes of both the ribbon and the bulk metallic glass were found to be controlled by volume nucleation with different nucleation rates, as indicated by the local Avrami exponent.

Preparation and mechanical properties of tungsten-particle-reinforced Zr-based bulk-metallic-glass composites

Yunfei Ma et al.

Summary: The study prepared tungsten-particle-reinforced bulk-metallic-glass composites with varying Wp volume fractions using spark plasma sintering, and found that the mechanical properties of the composites were significantly influenced by the volume fraction of Wp. The increase in Wp volume fraction not only affected the mechanical properties of the composites, but also improved their self-sharpening ability.

Crystallization of glasses - When to use the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami kinetics?

Roman Svoboda

Summary: The study tested the applicability of the JMA model based on the universal criterion of the kinetic peak asymmetry and determined the correlation between the simulated crystallization peaks and the JMA description. Results showed that the JMA model provided accurate kinetic predictions with high correlation coefficients within specific intervals of conversion degrees.

Analysis of the Crystallization Kinetics and Thermal Stability of the Amorphous Mg72Zn24Ca4 Alloy

Bartosz Opitek et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the crystallization process of the Mg72Zn24Ca4 metallic glass alloy using differential scanning calorimetry, revealing a strong dependence of crystallization on heating rate. The crystallization kinetics were modeled by the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation, with Avrami exponents indicating diffusion-controlled grain growth. The research also discovered the Mg phase as the isothermal crystallization product and developed a time-temperature phase transformation diagram for the alloy, showing high stability of its amorphous structure at human body temperature.
