Zircon U-Pb and geochemical signatures in high-pressure, low-temperature metamorphic rocks as recorders of subduction zone processes, Sikinos and Ios islands, Greece

Eirini M. Poulaki et al.

Summary: Zircon U-Pb dating is a widely used technique for understanding the timing and rates of magmatic and metamorphic processes, as well as sediment provenance. This study combined various analytical techniques to reconstruct the metamorphic conditions recorded by zircon growth, providing valuable insights into the petro-tectonic evolution of high-pressure/low-temperature metamorphic rocks in subduction zones. The results suggest multiple episodes of non-magmatic zircon rim growth, with implications for the juxtaposition of different rock units during subduction and HP metamorphism.

Geometry and Kinematics of Bivergent Extension in the Southern Cycladic Archipelago: Constraining an Extensional Hinge Zone on Sikinos Island, Aegean Sea, Greece

Uwe Ring et al.

Summary: The study in the Aegean Sea region of Greece revealed the presence of a hinge zone controlling extensional structures, with distinct characteristics of deformation events and evolution of strain geometry. This early-formed extensional structure is deemed significant in the history of lithospheric extension in the region due to the southward retreat of the Hellenic slab.
