The southeast Brazilian rifted continental margin is not a single, continuous upwarp: Variations in morphology and denudation patterns along the continental divide

Tobias M. R. Fonte-Boa et al.

Summary: Rifted continental margins, like the Brazilian South Atlantic margin, have substantial morphological variations and differ in their denudation patterns. This study focuses on the continental margin of southeast Brazil and finds that it has distinct regions with different denudation patterns, influenced by both the South Atlantic rifting and post-rift exhumation triggered by inherited basement structures. The morphological differences between different segments of the margin suggest that it is not a single continuous tectonic setting.

Temporal and spatial denudation trends in the continental margin of southeastern Brazil

Daniel H. Souza et al.

Summary: The passive margin of southeastern Brazil is characterized by two coast-parallel mountain ranges recording fast rock uplift events tens of millions of years after early Cretaceous continental rifting. Modern erosion rates are focused on escarpments and rivers, indicating their mobility capacity. Data suggests that the topographic arrangement between escarpments and low relief highland areas has continuously changed position over time, under control of Precambrian shear zones and transfer zones.

Deep structure of the Para-Maranhao/Barreirinhas passive margin in the equatorial Atlantic (NE Brazil)

Daniel Aslanian et al.

Summary: The study of the Par acute accent a-Maranhao/Barreirinhas margin in North Brazil reveals it as a pull-apart passive margin with speculative geometry and evolution due to lack of information on the crustal structure. Through the MAGIC deep seismic experiment, distinct structural domains are identified with variations in crustal thickness and velocities from onshore Brazil towards the Atlantic Ocean, shedding light on the evolution of the region's crust.

Geochronology of the Parana-Etendeka large igneous province

Allan Silva Gomes et al.

Summary: Constraining the timing of large igneous provinces is crucial for evaluating their petrogenetic evolution and potential links to mass extinctions. The Parana-Etendeka continental flood basalts erupted during the Early Cretaceous, lasting approximately 1.6-3.0 million years and possibly temporally connected to the Weissert event.
