Detrital zircons record the evolution of the Cathaysian Coastal Mountains along the South China margin

Yan Chen et al.

Summary: The Cathaysian Coastal Mountains are considered an ancient high-topographic feature that possibly existed along the margin of South China and underwent a long evolution process. Through sedimentological and detrital zircon analyses, the research reveals the formation and erosion processes of the Cathaysian Coastal Mountains over time. The significant crustal thickening at the South China margin is closely related to the evolution of the Cathaysian Coastal Mountains.

Remagnetization Age and Mechanism of Cretaceous Sediments in Relation to Dyke Intrusion, Hainan Island: Tectonic Implications for South China and the Red River Fault

Jun Meng et al.

Summary: A geochronologic and paleomagnetic study on Cretaceous rocks in Hainan Island near the Red River Fault reveals valuable information about the kinematic history of the region. The ages of tuff and mafic dyke in the area were determined to be 106.6 Ma and 104.6 Ma, respectively. The intrusion of the dykes occurred in a limited period of time after the tilting of sediments, and heating of the sediments only occurred near the contacts. The study also suggests that the South China Block has remained fixed to Eurasia since 105 Ma.

Apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He thermochronological evidence for Mesozoic exhumation of the Central Tibetan Mountain Range

Xinyu Qian et al.

Summary: This study examines the geological history of the Central Tibetan Mountain Range (CTMR) using apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He thermochronology data, revealing episodic rapid exhumations during the Middle-Late Jurassic and Late Cretaceous. This rapid exhumation is likely attributed to geological activities, consistent with the provenance analysis of the South and North Qiangtang Terrane.

Late Cretaceous to Early Cenozoic extension in the Lower Yangtze region (East China) driven by Izanagi-Pacific plate subduction

Xi Xu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the western Pacific subduction system has a significant impact on intracontinental deformation in eastern China, primarily causing extensional deformation in the region with mantle wedge convection being the key controlling factor. Additionally, as the Pacific plate ages, the vigor of mantle convection changes, directly influencing deformation and basin formation across eastern China.
