Numerical modeling considering initial gradient mechanical properties and experiment verification of residual stress distribution evolution of 12Cr2Ni4A steel generated by ultrasonic surface rolling

Jinyuan Tang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a numerical model considering initial gradient mechanical properties to predict the residual stress distribution of 12Cr2Ni4A carburized and quenched steel, and a method to calculate the ultrasonic surface rolling coverage based on Hertz contact theory is also proposed. The effects of static load, rolling tool radius, amplitude and feed rate on residual stress distribution are investigated. The simulated results are compared and proved to be in good agreement with the measured results, validating the accuracy of the proposed model.

Surface integrity and bending fatigue behavior of aeronautic gear steel under combined carburized treatment and shot peening

Yalong Zhang et al.

Summary: The carburized treatment combined with shot peening was used to enhance the fatigue behavior of aeronautic gear steel. The study systematically analyzed the surface integrity and fatigue behavior after carburizing and combined treatment. The results showed that the combined treatment increased surface roughness, microhardness, and residual compressive stress, while reducing the average size of ultra-fine grains. The fatigue limit of the samples treated by combined treatment was increased from 720 MPa to 890 MPa compared to carburized samples. Additionally, higher shot peening jet pressure did not necessarily result in better fatigue limit. Residual compressive stress was identified as an important factor influencing fatigue crack propagation mode.

Study on the relation between surface integrity and contact fatigue of carburized gears

Xiuhua Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relation between surface integrity and contact fatigue of gears. The results show that gears with high surface integrity exhibit the highest contact fatigue limit, which is 15.1% higher than gears with carburizing and grinding. Surface hardness, maximum compressive residual stress, and surface roughness are the most significant factors affecting contact fatigue life and fatigue limit. The proposed formulae have reasonable prediction accuracy for fatigue life and fatigue limit.

Zhonghuai Wu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of non-uniform abrasive grains on the deformation and material removal mechanisms of 6H-SiC during nanogrinding using molecular dynamics simulations. The study finds that different sizes of abrasive grains and cutting depths can result in different grinding mechanisms, which in turn affect the plastic deformation of the material.

Pei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of ultrasonic surface rolling process (USRP) to improve the service life of M50 steel main shaft bearing. The results show that USRP treatment forms a plastic deformation layer, enhances microhardness and residual stress, and improves surface roughness. Compared to untreated samples, USRP samples exhibit lower friction coefficient and wear rate, with a shift in the main wear mechanism towards slight adhesive wear.

The influence of aluminum on microstructure, mechanical properties and wear performance of Fe-14%Mn-1.05%C manganese steel

S. H. Mousavi Anijdan et al.

Summary: Increasing the Al content in the Fe-14%Mn-1.05%C steel led to larger austenite grain size, reduced carbide precipitation, higher yield strength, hardness, and wear resistance but lower tensile strength, ductility, and energy absorption capability. Wear mechanism was identified as abrasive wear in the form of parallel grooves on the worn surfaces. Additionally, increasing Al content decreased friction coefficient, weight loss, and surface damage.
