An integrated condition monitoring scheme for health state identification of a multi-stage gearbox through Hurst exponent estimates

Vamsi Inturi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the challenge of post-processing and extracting defect sensitive health indicators from non-stationary and aperiodic data. It demonstrates the effectiveness of using the estimated Hurst exponent as a health indicator for fault diagnostics of a multi-stage gearbox. The study formulates different health indicator datasets and applies various machine learning classifiers to achieve accurate discrimination of gearbox health states. The ability to reduce reliance on signal post-processing algorithms is also shown.

Structural damage monitoring for metallic panels based on acoustic emission and adaptive improvement variational mode decomposition-wavelet packet transform

Yang Li et al.

Summary: A new scheme based on adaptive improvement variational mode decomposition-wavelet packet transform is proposed to extract acoustic emission signal features of metallic panels. The effectiveness of the method is evaluated in three-point bending experiments using Q235B steel plates, and the influence of size effect on acoustic emission signal characteristics is investigated. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for acoustic emission-based structural health monitoring of metallic plate-like structures.

Component level signal segmentation method for multi-component fault detection in a wind turbine gearbox

Hemanth Mithun Praveen et al.

Summary: Condition monitoring of a modern wind turbine gearbox can be challenging due to its multiple stages operating at different frequencies and the complexity of fault diagnosis caused by the interaction between mating parts and damaged components. This study proposes a simplified signal segmentation technique that matches non-stationary vibration signals to specific speed stages and components within a multi-stage gearbox, improving the features of the dataset and enhancing the effectiveness of fault diagnosis using simpler algorithms. The proposed approach is evaluated using three different machine-learning algorithms and achieves an overall classification accuracy of 97%, outperforming the conventional approach.

Modulation signal bispectrum with optimized wavelet packet denoising for rolling bearing fault diagnosis

Junchao Guo et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel fault diagnosis scheme based on optimized wavelet packet denoising and modulation signal bispectrum to accurately diagnose bearing faults by enhancing transient impulses with wavelet packet denoising and demodulating modulation signal bispectrum. The method effectively purifies the signal and extracts the modulation components contained in the transient impulses, determining the type of bearing faults with superior performance in extracting the fault feature of incipient defects on different bearing components compared to other methods.
