Intermolecular interactions between the heavy-atom analogues of acetylene T2H2 (T = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) and HCN

Yishan Chen et al.

Summary: The intermolecular interactions between the heavy-atom analogues of acetylene (T2H2, T = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) and HCN were investigated using theoretical calculations. It was found that the global energy minimum of T2H2 is the butterfly structure A, and another energy minimum is the planar structure B. Both structures A and B exhibit dual behavior when binding with HCN, forming various hydrogen bond (HB), dihydrogen bond (DB), and tetrel bond (TB) complexes. The geometries and binding strengths of the complexes were compared and analyzed.

Hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the Imidazol-2-ylidene and its Heavy-atom analogues

Yishan Chen et al.

Summary: The hydrogen-bonded complexes between the imidazol-2-ylidene and its heavier congeners C2H4N2T (T = C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) with electron acceptors HF, HCN and C2H2 were studied. The complexes were classified into type-A and type-B structures based on the location of the electron acceptors. The electron-donating ability of T atoms becomes weaker, and that of n-systems becomes stronger as T atoms become heavier for C2H4N2T:, as confirmed by the molecular electrostatic potentials (MEP) maps. The interaction energies were dominated by electrostatic energies for type-B complexes involving HF, and by dispersion energies for most type-B complexes involving HCN and C2H2.

Intermolecular interactions involving the N-heterocyclic carbene and its heavier analogues C2H4N2X: (X = C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) with YH3F (Y = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb)

Summary: The intermolecular complexes formed by imidazol-2-ylidene and its heavy-atom analogues C2H4N2X: (X = C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) and YH3F (Y = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) were optimized at the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level. The binding modes were classified into three types (A, B, and C) based on the locations of YH3F. The interaction strength of the complexes varied with the atomic number of X, with type-B complexes showing the strongest binding.

Tetrel-Bond Interactions Involving Metallylenes TH2 (T = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb): Dual Binding Behavior

Yishan Chen et al.

Summary: The dual binding behavior of metallylenes TH2 with selected Lewis acids and bases has been studied using a high-level quantum chemical method. Two types of tetrel-bonded complexes can be formed due to the ambiphilic character of TH2. The complexes exhibit different binding modes and strengths, with the type-A complexes acting as Lewis bases and type-B complexes acting as Lewis acids. The analysis of atomic interactions and energy decomposition provides insights into the nature of these complexes.

Summary: This paper proposes a definition of tetrel bond and presents the characteristic features of tetrel bonds observed in crystalline phase or from first principles calculations. These features can be used to identify and classify the unique interactions formed by group 14 elements with an electrophilic site in a molecular entity.

Intermolecular interactions between the heavy alkenes H2Si = TH2 (T = C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) and acetylene

Yishan Chen et al.

Summary: The study calculated and investigated the intermolecular interactions between heavy alkenes and acetylene at different levels, revealing four types of complexes. The effects of substituents on the stability of these complexes were explored, showing that stability could shift depending on the substituents involved.
