Melatonin Improves Ischemia-Induced Circulation Recovery Impairment in Mice with Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes by Improving the Endothelial Progenitor Cells Functioning

Chin-Sung Kuo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that melatonin pretreatment can restore endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) function impairment and improve circulation recovery in a diabetic critical limb ischemia mouse model. Melatonin reverses the harmful effects of hyperglycemia on EPC through AMPK-related mechanisms and increases eNOS phosphorylation and heme oxygenase-1 expression. Melatonin treatment augments EPC function and neovascularization in response to ischemia in diabetic mice.

Glucocorticoid guides mobilization of bone marrow stem/progenitor cells via FPR and CXCR4 coupling

Wenting Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of glucocorticoid in the mobilization of bone marrow-derived stem and progenitor cells. It was found that glucocorticoid activates the HPA axis to regulate the migration of MSCs and EPCs mainly via GR, with changes in FPR and CXCR4 expression impacting the egress of these cells from the bone marrow, facilitating wound healing.

Reciprocal interaction between mesenchymal stem cells and transit amplifying cells regulates tissue homeostasis

Junjun Jing et al.

Summary: The interaction between adult stem cells (MSCs) and transit amplifying cells (TACs) is crucial for maintaining tissue homeostasis, with evidence of a feedforward signaling cascade involving IGF-WNT from MSCs to TACs. TACs are regulated by canonical WNT signaling and can feedback to MSCs through non-canonical WNT signaling to regulate MSC maintenance.

Yuehua Yang et al.

Summary: This study revealed that oxidative stress induced downregulation of TP53INP2 in BMSCs, suppressing osteogenic differentiation in osteoporosis patients, while overexpression of TP53INP2 facilitated bone cell differentiation and activated Wnt signaling. These findings provide a novel therapeutic target for osteoporosis.

The combination of G-CSF and AMD3100 mobilizes bone marrow-derived stem cells to protect against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury in mice

Zhi Chen et al.

Summary: The combination of G-CSF and AMD3100 therapy showed beneficial effects on renal function recovery and tissue damage attenuation in a model of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. This combinatorial therapy may offer a new therapeutic option for the treatment of AKI by mobilizing BMSCs to accelerate improvements in renal functions and prevent cisplatin-induced renal tubular injury.

Neovascularization and tissue regeneration by endothelial progenitor cells in ischemic stroke

Ji Li et al.

Summary: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are immature cells capable of proliferating and differentiating into mature endothelial cells (ECs) to repair injured endothelium and form new blood vessels. The regenerative capacity of EPCs is tightly regulated by endogenous and exogenous factors as well as vascular risk factors. Understanding these regulatory mechanisms is crucial for effectively using EPCs in treating vascular diseases like ischemic stroke.

Summary: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) play a crucial role in vascular repair and neovascularization, but their therapeutic efficacy in clinical studies varies. The effectiveness of EPCs is closely associated with the number of cells recruited to ischemic regions, their functional abilities, and survival in injury tissues.

Combination of graphene oxide and platelet-rich plasma improves tendon-bone healing in a rabbit model of supraspinatus tendon reconstruction

Dingsu Bao et al.

Summary: This study showed that PRP gels containing graphene oxide can effectively promote rotator cuff tear healing in a rabbit model by releasing growth factors, promoting bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells proliferation, and enhancing osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation. The newly regenerated tendons in the 0.5 GO/PRP group displayed similar structure to natural tendons and had improved biomechanical properties, suggesting that the combination of PRP and GO has great potential in the treatment of rotator cuff injuries.

Smart graphene-based hydrogel promotes recruitment and neural-like differentiation of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells in rat skin

Chenzhen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel strategy to promote neuronal differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) using cross-linked polyethylenimine (PEI) grafted graphene oxide (GO) as an enzyme-responsive vector for delivering active genes. By constructing a core-shell microfiber arrayed hydrogel incorporating a chemokine, the study effectively recruited and stimulated neural-like differentiation of BMSCs. This approach accelerates both in vitro and in vivo neuronal differentiation of BMSCs, providing a potentially translatable method for endogenous stem cell-based regenerative therapy.
