High rate of second ACL injury following ACL reconstruction in male professional footballers: an updated longitudinal analysis from 118 players in the UEFA Elite Club Injury Study

Francesco Della Villa et al.

Summary: A study on 118 male professional football players revealed that the rate of second ACL injury after return to training was 17.8%, with 42% of players with a non-contact index ACL injury experiencing a second ACL injury. Return to training time was not an independent predictor of second ACL injury, but there was a tendency for reduced risk with longer time to return to training.
