This study investigated the effects of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) on the growth and antibacterial activity of Chrysanthemum indicum (C. indicum) cuttings in vitro culture. The results showed that the treatment with TiO2 NPs at concentrations of 10 and 20 mg/L had the most significant positive influence on plant growth parameters. The TiO2 NPs treatment also increased the contents of chlorophylls and carotenoids, enhanced the activity of antioxidant enzymes, and improved the antibacterial activity of the plants through phenolic compounds.
The effect of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) on growth and the antibacterial activity of Chrysanthemum indicum (C. indcium) cuttings in vitro culture was considered. Here, we showed the treatment of TiO2 NPs with different concentrations (10 to 40 mg/L) stimulated on plant height, root number, and leaf number. Results demonstrated that the 10 and 20 mg/L of TiO2 NPs had the most pronounced positive influence on the growth parameters of C. indicum. These growth-promoting effects simultaneously increased the contents of chlorophylls and carotenoids and enhanced the activity of antioxidant enzymes. The improved antioxidant enzyme activities contributed to observe lowering levels of malondialdehyde content. Phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity were improved via the TiO2 NPs treatments. We further analyzed the ability of antibacterial activity of the plants. The C. indicum cuttings grown under the TiO2 NPs treatments significantly exhibited the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration values associated with phenolic compounds. Therefore, our experimental technique is optimized for plant cuttings growth and is powerful for medicinal plants to inhibit pathogenic bacteria. (c) 2023 SAAB. Published by Elsevier B.V.
