LC-MS Characterization and Biological Activities of Cuban Cultivars of Plectranthus neochilus Schltr

Annarli O. Rodriguez-Ferreiro et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the pharmacognostic characteristics of Cuban Plectranthus neochilus cultivars, revealing differences compared to previously reported properties. The leaves of Cuban cultivars lacked glandular trichomes and quantifiable levels of essential oils. Aqueous extracts used by the population showed no significant antimicrobial activity and were not cytotoxic. The phytochemical composition of the three extracts was similar, with rosmarinic acid as the major constituent, and several compounds were reported for the first time in this species.

Traditional usage and biological activity of Plectranthus madagascariensis and its varieties: A review

Isa Anina Lambrechts et al.

Summary: The study summarizes the ethnobotanical uses and research on the chemical constituents and biological effects of Plectranthus madagascariensis and its varieties. It highlights the lack of scientific reports on the potential activity of these varieties based on traditional usage, emphasizing the need for further investigation. Several studies have reported the traditional usage of P. madagascariensis for respiratory and dermatological ailments, while also mentioning the presence of major phytochemical compounds with reported activity against various biological targets.
