Construction of CoNiFe Trimetallic Carbonate Hydroxide Hierarchical Hollow Microflowers with Oxygen Vacancies for Electrocatalytic Water Oxidation

Summary: A sequential self-templating method was used to synthesize CoNiFe trimetallic carbonate hydroxide hierarchical hollow microflowers with oxygen vacancies. These hollow microflowers exhibited high active-site exposure density and increased electrical conductivity due to their hollow structure, Fe substitution, and V-O. The optimized trimetallic carbonate hydroxide microflowers showed excellent performance in the oxygen evolution reaction with low overpotential and Tafel slope. Theoretical calculations revealed that Fe substitution and V-O could regulate the electronic states and achieve near-ideal adsorption/desorption capacity for oxygenated intermediates. The successful synthesis of other substituted carbonate hydroxides provides a general protocol to construct transition multimetallic electrocatalysts with hollow structures for highly efficient energy conversion reactions.

Enhanced the electrochemical properties of Ni doped V2O5 as a electrode material for supercapacitor applications
