ZnIn2S4-based photocatalysts for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution via water splitting

Xinlong Zheng et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution via water splitting is a promising solution to the energy crisis and environmental pollution, and the development of advanced semiconductor photocatalysts is crucial. Zinc indium sulfide (ZnIn2S4) has excellent semiconductor properties and has been extensively studied for PHE application. This review briefly introduces the crystal and band structures of ZnIn2S4, and discusses the performance regulation through morphology modulation, structure design, doping method, and vacancy engineering. Furthermore, the loading of co-catalysts and the construction of heterojunctions for advanced ZnIn2S4-based photocatalysts are reviewed in detail. Finally, the challenges and prospects for developing advanced photocatalysts based on ZnIn2S4 are discussed.

Fabrication of 1D/2D CdS/CoSx direct Z-scheme photocatalyst with enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance

Weibing Li et al.

Summary: A 1D/2D heterojunction photocatalyst consisting of n-type CdS nanorods and p-type CoSx nanoflake is fabricated, achieving a remarkably high hydrogen evolution rate. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the fabrication of a direct Z-Scheme heterojunction system, which significantly improves the utilization, migration, and separation rate of photo-generated carriers. This work describes for the first time a CdS/CoSx direct Z-scheme system with 1D/2D nanostructure.

Operating redox couple transport mechanism for enhancing photocatalytic H2 generation of Pt and CrOx-decorated ZnCdS nanocrystals

Munir Ahmad et al.

Summary: Metal sulfide photocatalysts are at the forefront of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and solar energy conversion due to their suitable electronic and optical properties. However, the efficiency of these photocatalysts is often limited by slow transfer of photogenerated holes and sluggish water dissociation kinetics. A new Pt-CrOx/ZnCdS photocatalyst has been proposed to improve HER efficiency by utilizing a redox couple transport mechanism, leading to enhanced hydrogen production and phenol degradation in alkaline media.
