The patchy growth mode: Modulation of the Au-Au interface via phenynyl ligands

Jianpeng Zong et al.

Summary: This study explores the modulation of the Au-Au interface by phenyl ligands during the growth of Au domains. By manipulating the molecular structure and packing of the ligands, the growth mode of Au domains can be controlled and the plasmon absorption peak can be extended into the near-infrared range.

Continuous tuning the wetting growth of Au on Se nanoparticles

Shuaipeng Chen et al.

Summary: We have demonstrated a method to continuously tune the wetting growth of Au on Se seed nanoparticles by manipulating the growth kinetics. This approach allows us to obtain a series of Se-Au hybrids and anisotropic Au semi-shell structures with different sizes, and enables continuous tuning of their absorptions and LSPRs within the Visible-NIR spectral range.

DNA-Encoded Gold-Gold Wettability for Programmable Plasmonic Engineering

Tingting Zhai et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of single-stranded DNA to control the wettability of gold seeds by gold adatoms, enabling the synthesis of tunable plasmonic nanostructures. The attachment of DNA changes the growth mode of nanocrystals and allows for continuous control of the gold-gold contact angle. This strategy can be used to engineer nanoparticles with different shapes and dimensions.

Gold Nanorod-Melanin Hybrids for Enhanced and Prolonged Photoacoustic Imaging in the Near-Infrared-II Window

Wonjun Yim et al.

Summary: This study presents monodisperse GNR-melanin nanohybrids with a tunable polydopamine (PDA) coating that significantly enhances the photoacoustic (PA) signal compared to pristine GNRs. The PA signal of GNR@PDAs only decreased by 29% during 5 minutes of laser illumination in the NIR-II window, while significant attenuation (77%) was observed for GNRs. The PDA-coating provides a rational design for robust PA imaging probes and offers opportunities for other photomediated biomedicines.

Solution-Based SERS Detection of Weak Surficial Affinity Molecules Using Cysteamine-Modified Au Bipyramids

Muhammad Usman Amin et al.

Summary: The study successfully achieved surface modification of gold nano-bipyramids for ultra-sensitive detection of trace targets through a simple ligand exchange method. The cysteamine-capped gold nano-bipyramids showed higher sensitivity in SERS detection compared to CTAB-capped ones. The aggregation of Au BPs caused by hydrogen bonding with the pigment molecule led to local electromagnetic field enhancement, enhancing the detection limit of weak-affinity molecules.

Switchable Electrically Driven Optical Antenna Based on Ultrathin Amorphous Silica

Jibo Tang et al.

Summary: This study successfully developed a wavelength-switchable electrically driven optical antenna by bridging Au@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles on two gold electrodes and tuning the light emission based on the formation and elimination of conductive filaments, leading to an emission wavelength shift in the EDOA. The results provide new opportunities for developing switchable EDOA for integrated optoelectronic circuits, nanoscale sensing, and high-resolution display.
