Joint Design of Transmit Waveform and Receive Beamforming for LPI FDA-MIMO Radar

Pengcheng Gong et al.

Summary: This letter discusses the joint design of transmit waveform and receive beamforming for low probability of intercept (LPI) in cluttered environments with multiple-input multiple-output and frequency diverse array radar. The objective is to maximize the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio while controlling the transmit power and satisfying constraints. An alternating optimization algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers is proposed to tackle the non-convex optimization problem. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the developed method in terms of objective function values and beampatterns.

Beampattern Synthesis via the Constrained Subarray Layout Optimization

Lifang Feng et al.

Summary: This article proposes a new optimization method to achieve desired beampattern by jointly designing the subarray layout vector and weighted coefficient of radiation elements. Numerical simulations show that the proposed method can achieve a lower peak sidelobe level and a sparser array structure while satisfying given constraints.

Xudong Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper deals with the problem of beamforming with uniform CCMAs in the 3-dimensional space and proposes a beamforming method that allows flexible steering while forming frequency-invariant beampatterns. The study provides contributions such as analysis based on spherical harmonics, development of a beamforming method, identification of array geometry conditions, and analytical forms of resulting beamformer properties. A Robust Wavenumber-Domain Superdirective Beamforming for Endfire Arrays

Gaokun Yu et al.

Summary: A novel wavenumber-domain superdirective beamforming method is proposed in this paper, which calculates spatial derivatives through multiplication operations in the wavenumber domain, effectively meeting the Nyquist criterion and producing a broadband frequency-independent beamformer. By increasing the number of sensors and using an optimized truncation parameter, the robustness of the proposed beamformer at lower frequencies can be enhanced.

On the Robustness of the Superdirective Beamformer

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on studying the robustness of the superdirective beamformer and deriving better ways to deal with this important issue. By proving that any distortionless fixed beamformer can be written as the sum of two orthogonal beamformers, the paper develops different kinds of robust superdirective beamformers. It also demonstrates that the robust design problem can be transformed into a quadratic eigenvalue problem, achieving the maximum possible directivity factor while meeting the white noise gain constraint over a frequency band of interest.

Steering Study of Linear Differential Microphone Arrays

Jilu Jin et al.

Summary: This paper studies the steering problem of differential beamformers with linear microphone arrays, presenting new insights and proposing a series of steerable beamformers. It is proved that first-order differential beamformers with linear microphone arrays are not steerable, and fundamental conditions for designing steerable differential beamformers with LDMAs are deduced.

Sensor Imperfection Tolerance Analysis of Robust Linear Differential Microphone Arrays

Zuolong Chen et al.

Summary: Traditional linear differential microphone arrays suffer from white noise amplification, leading to the proposal of robust LDMA which uses more microphones to mitigate this issue. In the presence of sensor imperfections, preventing the occurrence of mainlobe orientation reversal phenomenon serves as a minimum requirement for designing robust LDMA.
