Understanding Relationships between Free Volume and Oxygen Absorption in Ionic Liquids

Malia B. Wenny et al.

Summary: Understanding the factors that govern gas absorption in ionic liquids is crucial for developing high-capacity solvents. Experimental probes and molecular dynamics simulations reveal the relationship between liquid structure and gas absorption properties, providing guidance for designing ionic liquids with high gas solubilities.

User-assisted methodology targeted for building structure interpretable QSPR models for boosting CO2 capture with ionic liquids

Joachim Eichenlaub et al.

Summary: As an environmentally friendly alternative, ionic liquids are potential candidates for carbon capture processes. Computational methods are preferred for assessing their potential applications due to the time-consuming and expensive nature of laboratory research. In this study, three quantitative structure-property relationship models were created to predict the Henry's law constant of CO2 in 62 ionic liquids. The models showed satisfactory statistical parameters and provided guidelines for designing ionic liquids with increased CO2 absorption capacity.

Advances in applications of ionic liquids for phase change CO2 capture

Wufeng Jiang et al.

Summary: Research and development of novel absorbents with high efficiency and low energy consumption is crucial for large-scale carbon dioxide emissions reduction. Ionic liquids (ILs) absorbents, with adjustable structure, negligible vapor pressure, low specific heat capacity, and moderate reaction heat, show remarkable potential for energy conservation. This article reviews the recent progress in ILs-based phase change absorbents for CO2 capture technology, focusing on phase change behaviors, reaction and phase change mechanisms, and process flow and energy consumption analyses. The challenges and outlooks on novel ILs-based phase change absorbents for CO2 capture are discussed.
