Adaptive reference aware MPC for lateral control of autonomous vehicles

Goncalo Collares Pereira et al.

Summary: This work proposes a path tracking controller for autonomous vehicles, which ensures closed-loop stability, safety, comfort, and minimal wear of vehicle components. The controller uses a reformulated Reference Aware MPC and stability is proven using Lyapunov techniques. To adapt the controller's response in real-time, a novel nonlinear curvature response model is introduced, estimated online through Kalman filtering. The controller and curvature response model are evaluated through simulations and experiments on a Scania construction truck, demonstrating their advantages over existing state-of-the-art approaches.

Rui Xiong et al.

Summary: Four-wheel independently driven skid steer robotic vehicles (IDSSRVs) are widely used in various fields. However, due to the limitations of small size and low power consumption, many sensors and high-performance processors cannot be equipped, making path tracking more complex. To address this issue, researchers propose a cascaded NTSM-PID method based on nonsingular terminal sliding mode (NTSM), and design a joint PID controller to reduce the deviation of the NTSM controller. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach significantly reduces tracking error compared to other methods.
