Long-Range FM Backscatter Tag With Tunnel Diode

Jia Hu et al.

Summary: The backscatter tag amplifier designed with a tunnel diode consumes low power and achieves longer backscatter distance. With a 23-dB gain in the bandwidth between 88 and 108 MHz, the amplifier only consumes 90 mu W of power. Field test results show that the FM tag based on the tunnel diode can achieve a 20-meter communication range under FM signal strength of -50 dBm, surpassing traditional FM backscatter tags.

A NOMA Scheme for IoT Enabled by Selective Powering of Passive Backscattering Nodes

Roberto Valentini et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel communication strategy for Non-orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) systems with passive backscattering sensor nodes. The proposed scheme controls the number of backscattering sensors contending the channel by tuning the transmission power of the illuminator incrementally, and mitigates multiple-access interference by Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) at the receiver.
