Consideration of coupling of crack development and corrosion in assessing the reliability of reinforced concrete beams subjected to bending

Tiao Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a stochastic model that combines the degradation effects of crack development and corrosion progression to estimate the probability of failure of reinforced concrete structures over time. Numerical experiments show that the probability of corrosion failure is significantly underestimated if the coupled degradation effect of cracks and corrosion is not considered. Parameter analysis is used to identify the effects of individual parameters on the probability of corrosion failure of RC beams over time, including external load level, supplementary cementitious materials, and environmental temperature.

Crack segmentation through deep convolutional neural networks and heterogeneous image fusion

Shanglian Zhou et al.

Summary: In this research, a DCNN-based crack segmentation methodology is proposed, leveraging heterogeneous image fusion to reduce image-related disturbances and mitigate uncertainties through cross-domain feature correlation. Experimental results show that the "extract-fuse" pattern used in the DCNN, exploiting the fused raw image, achieves the most robust and accurate crack segmentation performance.

Probabilistic estimation of flexural loading capacity of existing RC structures based on observational corrosion-induced crack width distribution using machine learning

Mingyang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study proposes a probabilistic framework for estimating the structural capacity of corroded RC structures using observational corrosion-induced crack width distribution and machine learning. Machine learning-based models are developed to estimate steel weight loss distribution from observational corrosion-induced crack distribution. Monte Carlo-based FE analysis is conducted to obtain the probability density function of structural capacity of corroded RC beams using estimated steel weight loss distribution.
