Acoustoelectric Effect of Rayleigh and Sezawa Waves in ZnO/Fused Silica Produced by an Inhomogeneous In-Depth Electrical Conductivity Profile

Cinzia Caliendo

Summary: The acousto-electric effect caused by Rayleigh and Sezawa surface acoustic waves in ZnO/fused silica was theoretically studied based on the assumption that the electrical conductivity of the piezoelectric layer follows an exponentially decaying profile. The calculated velocity and attenuation curves exhibit a double-relaxation response, which differs from the single-relaxation response observed in the acousto-electric effect due to surface conductivity changes. Two configurations were examined to simulate the effects of top or bottom UV light illumination on the ZnO/fused silica substrate. This is the first theoretical study on the double-relaxation acousto-electric effect in bi-layered structures.
